Apple Festival and Bike Race

Directions

From the North:
Take I-81 to Exit 1 in New York State. Follow Rt. 7 South to PA Rt. 29 South for 10 miles to Montrose. Take Lake Ave. to the Village Green.

From the South:
Take I-81 to exit 223. Follow signs to Rt. 11. Turn left on 11 and follow signs to Rt. 706 for 10 miles to Montrose. Turn right at the traffic light. "The Green" is next to the courthouse.

History

The Apple Fest was initiated to be a friend and fundraiser. The Apple Fest was the "brain child" of Louise Lyons Novy, Corky Staats, and Mike Bernhardt. Staff may have changed, but the concept of a friend and fun raiser has not. Those attending the event enjoy the bike race, activities for children, apples, food, and entertainment.

The 15th annual Apple Festival took place on September 12, 2009. Corporate sponsor, Pump and Pantry, joined by Frontier Communications, Broadline Construction, Susquehanna County Probation, Mountain Side Fruit Market, and Montrose Produce helped to make the event a success.

New in 2009 was a local author’s corner. This year, five local authors presented their books.

This year 84 riders participated in the two races through the scenic Endless Mountains. 83 of the racers were either from New York State or Pennsylvania with one rider from New Jersey.
